The legacy of Stewart Middle Magnet School runs deep, woven into the fabric of the community it has served for generations. Recently, we had the privilege of walking its historic halls with Lionel Ballard, former star quarterback of the old Blake High School Class of 1970.
As Lionel reflected on his journey, he shared powerful memories of the school’s vibrant past—from the trade programs once offered at Blake High, to the thriving night school led by his father at the old Just school. He recounted the moments and milestones that shaped not only his life but the lives of so many in the surrounding community.
Nearly 55 years later, his story is a reminder of the enduring impact of education, community, and tradition. It inspires us to continue supporting our schools, uplifting our neighborhoods, and honoring those who paved the way for future generations.
